Oct 02, 2020 (newstodate): Johannus Gunnar Egholm Hansen, serving as Chairman of the Board at Greenland's airport company, Kalaallit Airports, since March 2017, has abruptly stepped down.
While Greenland's government Naalakkersuisut has officially deplored his decision, Mr Hansen refrains from commenting to newstodate on the background for his decision that has taken immediate effect.
As an interim solution Christian Berg, vice chairman of the Board since May 2020 - and Sonderborg Airport Director - has taken the reins pending the appointment of a successor to Mr Hansen.
Also from the start of October 2020, Kalaallit Airport has a new CEO, Jens Lauridsen, formerly Jet Time VP Technical, so the organization will have a new top exec team when the positions are filled.
As always, issues of airports and aviation are generating heated political debate and interference in Greenland where at least one of three current airport projects, at Qaqortoq, is on thin ice - an issue that will require the full attention and prompt action by both the future new Chairman of the Board and the new CEO.
