Oct 27, 2020 (newstodate): As reported yesterday, the South African carrier Global Airways has emerged as the second foreign carrier to settle in Lithuania, alongside Heston Airlines.
Global Airways is actually already present in the market by its GSA, Bruno Kaspar based in Vilnius.
-As an ACMI provider we share the challenges in today's turbulent market, but compared to most other companies we are in a different position with a strong financial background behind the new Lithuanian subsidiary, says Bruno Kaspar.
-Our South African AOC will be coupled with the coming Lithuanian AOC, and with a presence in two hemispheres we will not be subject to the seasonality unlike most other carriers.
-Establishing our Lithuanian subsidiary will also grant us with opportunities to expand into new European markets with a cost base lower than most of our competitors; we own all of our aircraft and have no lease obligations.
-From the start, we will move one Airbus A320 aircraft from our South African AOC to our coming Lithuanian AOC, and we are certainly to expand by adding new own aircraft directly as markets develop after the Covid-19 pandemic.
-Hopes are that we will be in the air by summer 2021 depending on the handling of our application by the Lithuanian regulator. And from there we will grow our business with a long-term perspective. We are here to stay, says Mr Kaspar.
Global Airways is also still planning for a future setup of a maintenance base at Kaunas Airport to secure control over its needs for maintenance works.
