Oct 20, 2020 (newstodate): Long-term parking of aircraft is not convenient in Finland's usually rather harsh winter climate.
Instead, Finnair has decided to relocate its Airbus A320 fleet for winter storage in the warmer environment at Prague Airport, in the Czech Republic.
According to current plans, Finnair will thus send about half, or some 20, of its 37 Airbus A320 to Prague with two to four aircraft going south per week under a program already in full progress.
Finnair has realized that the traffic will not, as earlier hoped, pick up again from this winter schedule which leaves excess aircraft capacity at least till the start of next year's summer 2021 schedule.
Partnering with Finnair is Czech Airlines Technics, CSAT, that has expanded its aircraft storage and maintenance services at Prague Airport.
CSAT is already providing maintenance of Finnair's Airbus A320 aircraft under a multi-year contract signed earlier in 2020.
