Oct 06, 2020 (newstodate): Norway's elongated shape spanning 1,752 km from north to south calls for domestic air travel - and is now luring a new airline venture to launch business.
Yet unnamed, the new airline project is spearheaded by Erik G. Braathen leading a team of seasoned professionals in Norway's aviation industry including Brede Huser, Thomas Ramdahl, Asgeir Nyseth, Alf Sagen, Bjorn Erik Barman-Jenssen and Tord Meling.
The vision is to build a customer friendly and financially sustainable airline; to secure continued supply and competition on Norwegian domestic routes, and to offer direct flights to Europe with an initial fleet of five Boeing 737-800 or Airbus A320 aircraft.
-We believe it is the right time to start a new airline. We will be able to lease modern aircraft at a reasonable price, hire top-tier staff, and build a digital company with less complexity in order to lower cost and achieve profitability with fewer aircraft, says Erik G. Braathen.
The company now works to secure funding based on private capital and access to temporary and relevant financial support from the government; a formal request has already been filed with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.
At this stage, plans are to see launch of services by H1, 2021, supported by a staff growing to 400 employees by 2022.
Already now, more than 25 people are working full-time to build the new airline.
Serving the Norwegian market with domestic flights are today SAS and Norwegian, while Wizz Air will today announce its new plan for entering the domestic market by setting up a hub at Oslo Airport to compete with the existing providers of domestic flights in Norway.
