Oct 08, 2020 (newstodate): Air Greenland is currently reevaluating its plan for introducing an Airbus A330-800 aircraft to replace its existing Airbus A330-200.
-We are going through the issue this autumn and expect to reach an update of the decision before the end of this year, says Mikkel K. Sondergaard, Air Greenland press officer, on newstodate's inquiry.
-We however expect to push back the delivery of the new aircraft currently slated for Q4, 2021 - but a decision on a new delivery date is part of the discussions currently being undertaken, says Mr Sondergaard.
The coming new aircraft will primarily be operating the route between Denmark and the new airports at Nuuk and Ilulissat as well as opening potentials for new routes between Greenland and North America.
As part of the process, Air Greenland's current and only wide-body aircraft, the Airbus A330-200 was put up for sale in September 2019 - and is still on the shelf.
Air Greenland has contracted Skytech-AIC to market the aircraft, manufactured in 1998 and serving with Air Greenland since 2002.
The aircraft will by then be near the end of the service life in 2022 of its PW4000 power plants.
