Jan 09, 2020 (newstodate): Little has been heard about plans for a revival of the Icelandic carrier WOW Air by the US company USAerospace Associates LLC since a press conference in Reykjavik on September 6, 2019.
Tentatively named "We Are Back", intentions were to launch Transatlantic services by mid-October 2019, later slated for start of services by December 2019, instead - which also did not materialize.
Now, at long last, the airline project has been spotted by the US media Spotted from the Wing, carrying a photo of a cafe in downtown Washington flying the banner: WOW Air & Cafe landing soon".
-This is expected to be Wow Air’s ticketing office. Icelandic media reported just before Christmas that the nascent airline planned to offer “a sales office and a facility where people can sit down, have a coffee and browse the possibilities”, the media reports.
Initially based on a US AOC, later to be supplemented by an Icelandic AOC, ambitions are to start low-cost flights between Keflavik and Washington, initially with a fleet of two aircraft and planning to grow to six aircraft by summer 2020 - finally landing at some 10-12 aircraft.
Air cargo will be part of the coming "new" carrier's business plan from the outset, targeting Iceland's exports of seafood to the American market.
