Jan 17, 2020 (newstodate): Russia remains keen to push its Superjet 100 into the European market - so far with little success.
Now a new attempt is being made as a group of Russian and UAE investors with investor representative Oleg Evdokimov as its spokesman have teamed up with Sukhoi to participate in the auction on January 20, 2020, for the assets of Adria Airways that folded its wings in bankruptcy on October 1, 2019, including the carrier's AOC which would grant access to flights in the EU market in a JV with partners in the EU.
If successful, the revived Adria Airways would be aiming at setting up air transportation on a regular, charter basis, as well as offering ACMI and wet lease services with a fleet of Superjet 100 aircraft.
-Adria's certificate allows us to operate not only in Ljubljana but at any airport in Europe. Our plan is to introduce 200 Sukhoi Superjet aircraft into the European market, Mr Evdokimov told Television Slovenia.
So far, the Superjet 100 has had little success in Europe.
On November 26, 2018, Adria Airways inked an MoU with Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company for long term lease of 15 aircraft type SuperJet 100, with deliveries to start from 2019 already - but plans were aborted amid mutual allegations between the parties.
Prior to that, Brussels Airlines returned six Superjet 100 aircraft leased from CityJet that had originally ordered a total of 15 Superjet 100, with options on 16 more - but only seven were delivered and soon left the carrier.
