Jan 31, 2020 (newstodate): Rumours carried by Icelandic media suggest a financial link between the handling company Airport Associates and the planned new low-cost carrier PLAY.
This is, however, strongly refuted as void and baseless.
At the core of the rumour is the fact that part-owner of Airport Associates, Mr Skuli Skulasson is also on the Board of PLAY.
-I have accepted a request from PLAY to join their Board with the specific task of securing the interests of investors and dealing with investor issues. I have accepted this position as a private individual with a firm background in the airline industry and rich experience in handling investor issues, says Mr Skulasson.
-There is thus no link between my two positions, and my work for PLAY does not imply any connection whatsoever with Airport Associates, says Mr Skulasson.
In the meantime, PLAY is still to round off its search for investors to provide the financial background for launching, and securing, the operations of the coming new low-cost carrier.
The core group behind the project earlier planned that flights would commence in December 2019, starting out with two Airbus A321 aircraft, growing to six aircraft in 2020, and to 10 aircraft within the first three years of operation.
So far there is no indication of when the market can expect PLAY to lift off.
