Jan 17, 2020 (newstodate): The Romanian carrier Tarom left 2019 with alarmingly empty pockets requiring immediate action to keep it in the air.
   In an effort to save the carrier's life, the Romanian  government has now approved a capital injection into Tarom as a loan to be transformed into restructuring aid, subject to approval by the European Commission.
   EU will thus require Tarom, 97 percent owned by the Romanian state, to come up with a restructuring plan as a precondition for approving the state intervention.
   SkyTeam-member Tarom is currently operating a fleet of 25 aircraft, with orders for another 14 aircraft including nine ATR 72-600 urgently needed to modernize the fleet.
   The airline has also committed to take delivery of five Boeing 737 MAX aircraft from 2023.
