Jan 07, 2020 (newstodate): Iceland's Isavia has released its Keflavik Airport passenger volumes forecast 2020, foreseeing a decrease in total volumes by 7.6 percent, y-o-y, to 6.7 mio passengers.
The sustained drop in passenger volumes in 2020 will primarily be due to a fall in transfer passenger volumes by 24.3 percent, y-o-y, not least due to the demise of WOW Air in 2019.
The total number of arriving passengers is estimated to land around 2.5 million, down 1.4 percent, y-o-y, while departing passengers will be roughly another 2.6 mio, down only one percent.
In 2020, departures will thus account for some 38.7 percent, arrivals will account for 38.4 percent, and transfer passengers for 22.9 percent.
One novelty in 2020 at Keflavik Airport will be the start of Iceland's first direct flight connection with China as the Chinese carrier Juneyao Airlines is introducing two weekly rotations from March 29, 2020, as an extension to its route between Shanghai and Helsinki.
Only in 2018, estimates were that Keflavik Airport would be handling 14.5 mio passengers by 2025
