Jan 10, 2020 (newstodate): Iceland's airport infrastructure serving the capital Reykjavik is hampered by a distance of 50 km between the international traffic at Keflavik and the domestic traffic at Reykjavik Airport, near the city centre.
Icelandair has now presented its case to Iceland's government requesting the option of constructing of a new airport at Hvassahraun between Reykjavik and Keflavík International Airport to integrate international and domestic air services.
The plans are now to be evaluated, but no commitment has been made by the Icelandic state for construction of a new airport that would obviously require massive investments over a decade-long building process.
