According to the report, the aviation industry contributes no less than 38.3 percent to Iceland's economy which is recognized as a unique high percentage and indeed the largest in the European market place.
The contribution derives from the generated value of foreign tourism in Iceland directly supporting 72,000 jobs including 14,000 jobs in the supply chain, 6,000 jobs in employee spendings and 41,000 jobs in the tourism industry.
Iceland's Top-5 busiest direct flights arrivals are USA, UK, Germany, Denmark, and Canada, and the Top-5 busiest cargo routes are USA, UK, Ireland, Belgium, and Germany.
As to Iceland's connectivity, the report finds 64 city pairs, with 24 US destinations topping the list, followed by 15 in the UK, 11 in Spain and 10 in Germany, 115 international routes are served by a total of 21 airlines that generated close to 70,000 landings and take-offs in 2018.
