Jan 22, 2020 (newstodate): Copenhagen Airport saw its total cargo volumes down in 2019, commercial and integrator traffic included.
A total of 345,296 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport in January-December 2019, a decrease by 3.1 percent, y-o-y.
-Import volumes dropped 0.2 percent compared to 2018, and exports were down by 0.8 percent, says Lars Gotfredsen, CPH Air Cargo Manager.
-The decline was especially marked by a drop in transit cargo that was down not less than 5.1 percent. As transit cargo constitutes the largest part, or 54.5 percent, of the total cargo flow, this has a significant direct impact on the overall picture.
-However, on the positive side the airport's long-haul flights show a sustained growth in belly cargo volumes which is crucial for the profitable operations on the overseas routes. In total, the belly cargo volumes have thus not declined, but have instead increased by 1.5 percent in 2019.
-One segment of special interest is pharmaceuticals, where the estimated value of exports has grown by 37 percent to reach about DKK 144 mio, while the tonnage carried was up 1.5 percent to 39.403 tonnes in 2019. For exporters in this segment, the value of shipments is clearly rising adding further importance for operators serving this segment.
-Cargo volumes by integrators declined in 2019 by 2.7 percent partly due to periodical changes in schedules resulting in less cargo through Copenhagen Airport.
-As of now, we do not foresee any major changes in cargo flows or markets in 2020, says Mr Gotfredsen.
