Jan 23, 2020 (newstodate): The first Chinese carrier to offer direct non-stop flights between the Czech Republic and China, Hainan Airlines is reining in on its operations.
The carrier launched flights between Beijing and Prague from September 23, 2015, but has now closed for bookings on the route from the coming summer schedule.
While not officially confirmed by any party, the decision may reflect a Chinese response to the decision by the mayor of Prague to end a sister-city arrangement with the Chinese capital, refusing to sign a deal that would force his city to "speak out against independence of Tibet and Taiwan".
The mayor has even gone so far as airing intentions of entering a sister-city relationship with Taipei, on Taiwan, instead.
Other Mainland Chinese carriers at Prague Airport are Sichuan Airlines and China Eastern.
Also operating at Prague Airport is the Taiwanese carrier China Airlines with a freighter service between Taipei and Prague since November 2004.
