Jan 07, 2020 (newstodate): Finnair rounded off 2019 with a total of 173,282 tonnes of cargo carried in the belly holds of its passenger aircraft in scheduled traffic.
This was an increase in volumes by 9.6 percent, y-o-y, with the Asian traffic contributing 123,953 tonnes, up 6.5 percent in 2019, but reflecting the overall global uncertainty in world trade that continued to press global air freight market, especially visible in Finnair's Asian cargo markets.
In 2019, volumes on the North Atlantic lanes were up 30.1 percent to 13,574 tonnes, while the European traffic increased 53.7 percent to 35,182 tonnes.
December 2019 alone was however marked by the postal strikes in Finland driving the total volumes up by only 2.9 percent, y-o-y, to 13,811 tonnes, with the Asian volumes down 3.1 percent to 9,674 tonnes.
