Jan 30, 2020 (newstodate): Over-all, 2019 was another satisfying year for the Icelandic ACMI provider Air Atlanta Icelandic.
-On the cargo side, we did see a decline in the market, but for us it was still a reasonably good year, with all freighters on long-term contracts. However, the rate of utilization was a bit less than we might have hoped for, says Baldvin Mar Hermannsson, Air Atlanta Icelandic CEO.
-Despite this, we added another two Boeing 747-400 freighters, growing the fleet to seven aircraft. We are thus entering 2020 with strong fleet in a market that is still rather soft, but we expect it to catch up by the latter half of the year.
-As all seven freighters are on long-term contracts we have no extra capacity to throw into the market. Should needs arise, we would have to add more aircraft, but it is never easy to find used Boeing 747-400 freighters in the right condition at the right price. But we would manage..
-In the passenger segment we experienced a strong market in 20190, basically making up for the decline in cargo. All our seven Boeing 747-400 aircraft are on long-term contracts with Saudia Airlines that has been a close partner for us for 25-30 years, and we intend to solidify and build up this partnership further, says Mr Hermannsson.
