Sep 20, 2019 (newstodate): In August 2019, Riga Airport saw its flown cargo volumes rising - but only by one percent, y-o-y.
A total of 2,886 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, including 1,318 tonnes of cargo and 968 tonnes of mail.
With these volumes, the airport has thus seen volumes through the first eight months of 2019 down by 4.6 percent, y-o-y, to 17,816 tonnes.
The trend is, however, positive as statistics are now free from the impact of the pull-out from April 19, 2018, of Turkish Cargo's two weekly freighter services at Riga Airport since July 1, 2017.
On the positive side, the Russian carrier Atran Airlines, member of the Volga-Dnepr Group, has introduced a weekly freighter flight between Hangzhou, in China, and Riga Airport with the Boeing 737-800BCF flying into Riga from Moscow Vnukovo Airport since May 2019 with up to 23 tonnes of cargo consisting of e-commerce shipments of Cainiao Network, the logistics arm of Alibaba Group.
