Sep 09, 2019 (newstodate): A mix of a weakening currency and a growing "flygskam" puts a strong mark on Swedavia's passenger statistics for August 2019.
Altogether, the number of passengers through Swedavia's 10 airports was down by four percent, y-o-y, in August 2019, to 3,718,000.
The volume of passengers on international flights dropped one percent, while the volume of passengers on domestic flights was down 10 percent.
Sweden's capital Stockholm Airport saw volumes down by four percent, with international pax down two percent, and domestic pax volumes down 11 percent.
The international traffic at Stockholm Airport was hit also by SAS' move of its Hong Kong route to Copenhagen Airport from October 28, 2018, and another blow will be the move by SAS of its route to Los Angeles from Stockholm to Copenhagen from January 14, 2020.
By contrast, Gothenburg Airport saw its total pax volumes also down one percent, but here international pax increased by two percent, thanks to the launch of daily services by Qatar Airways from December 12, 2018. Domestic pax volumes dropped 15 percent, however.
