Sep 05, 2019 (newstodate): Plans for start of a new freighter service from Northern Norway are progressing at full speed.
When all remaining issues are settled, exporters of Norwegian seafood will benefit from wide-body uplift capacity to the Asian and North American markets from Bodo Airport.
As an alternate airport for Transatlantic flights, Bodo Airport is familiar with handling of aircraft the size of Boeing 747/Boeing 777, but operating a scheduled large aircraft service will require a permanent certification by the aviation authorities, as well as an agreement, still pending, with the Norwegian Defence Ministry for joint use of the runway system.
Other crucial issues have already been solved, notably the requirement for a main-deck cargo loader, already delivered, as well as pertinent aircraft stairs to be delivered shortly.
The group behind the initiative for a new freighter service at Bodo Airport is in close talks with a major airline that will fly into Bodo from another European airport, thereby relieving the airport of the demand for large-scale fuelling capacity that was earlier considered one of the obstacles to overcome.
Based on a source within the project, newstodate understands that an announcement of the opening of the service can be expected within the immediate future.
