Sep 17, 2019 (newstodate): Since May 9, 2019, the Russian carrier Atran Airlines is operating into Latvia's Riga Airport with a Boeing 737-800BCF freighter.
The carrier's weekly freighter flight connects to the Volga-Dnepr Group's freighter service between Moscow and Hangzhou, in China, providing up to 23 tonnes of cargo capacity for e-commerce shipments from Cainiao Network, the logistics arm of Alibaba Group, into Riga Airport and onward to the European markets.
Atran Airlines is actually alone among the three carriers within the Volga-Dnepr Group to show sustained cargo growth.
Ranking #11 on the Russian list of cargo-carrying airlines, Atran Airlines thus increased its volumes in January-July 2019 by 37 percent, y-o-y, to 9,530 tonnes, overtaking the Group's Volga-Dnepr Airlines, #12 on the list, that saw its volumes down by 42.2 percent to 8,650 tonnes.
The lift is however still topped by the Group's ABC Airlines that lifted 13,623 tonnes of cargo - but dropped by 5.7 percent during the period.
