Sep 23, 2019 (newstodate): The collapse over the weekend of the British travel group Thomas Cook has led to canvassing of all available aircraft capacity in the market to bring back stranded tourists.
An estimated 600,000 passengers are stuck around the world, of which 160,000 are British, and Titan Airways is now working in coordination with the British CAA to provide return flights back to the UK.
Titan Airways has thus so far wet-leased some 40 aircraft from carriers including Easyjet, Wamos Air, Nile Air, EuroAtlantic Airways, Hi Fly, Hi Fly Malta, TUI Airways, Freebird Airlines, Evelop Airlines, Atlas Air, Eastern Airlines, Miami Air International, Malaysian Airways, and Virgin Atlantic, while Avion Express continues flights under its contract with Thomas Cook, now with five A321 and two A320 on Titan Airways' flight numbers like SmartLynx Airlines with three A321 and one A320.
The grounding of Thomas Cook also hits some 7,000 Danish charter tourists travelling with Spies, and the plans for their return flights are still not settled, while all outgoing Spies charter travels are cancelled.
