Aug 29, 2019 (newstodate): Benefiting from new Maltese AOCs, two airlines have been granted Foreign Air Carrier Permits and Exemption Authority by the US regulator DOT.
The Latvian carrier SmartLynx' Maltese subsidiary thus sent its application to DOT on June 6, 2019, and was granted the requested permits on August 22, 2019.
Obtaining its Maltese AOC on April 198, 2019, SmartLynx is thus cleared to offer charter and ACMI services through its Maltese subsidiary SmartLynx Malta that started out with one Airbus A320, leased from Aercap and delivered on March 25, 2019.
Similarly, the Lithuanian company Avion Express Malta applied for similar rights on July 3, 2019, and was granted rights on August 22, 2019.
Avion Express Malta obtained its Maltese AOC in May 2019, starting out with one Airbus A320 aircraft that commenced flights for Norwegian on May 20, 2019, under an ACMI contract for the 2019 summer peak season.
The companies are thus now allowed to operate flights between any points in the EU and in the USA, benefiting from Malta's friendly business environment and agreements with USA.
