Aug 22, 2019 (newstodate): Sweden's Jonkoping Airport has seen its cargo volumes down by 13.4 percent, y-o-y, during this year's first six months.
A total of 1,541 tonnes of cargo was thus handled during H1/2019, compared to 1,783 tonnes in H1/2019.
-Actually, statistics show that the number of shipments has not declined in 2019, but the shipments are obviously less voluminous and lighter, says Henrik Alverdahl, Jonkoping Airport Marketing Manager.
-The freighters are usually fully loaded. What is needed is larger aircraft and more capacity as some operators are also considering.
By April 1, 2018, Post Sweden ended the airport's role as a mini-hub since May 2007 when it started transferring mail volumes between Northern and Southern Sweden through Jonkoping, and from March 2018 Post Sweden is no longer operating at Jonkoping Airport.
Today, the airport's cargo business thus primarily comprises operations by TNT, time:matters and DAN'X.
