Aug 13, 2019 (newstodate): Cargo statistics for H1/2019 from Swedavia confirms the general trends in the air cargo markets.
The total volumes handled at Swedavia's three main airports Stockholm Arlanda, Gothenburg and Malmo were down 8.8 percent, y-o-y, during January-June 2019, to 127,452 tonnes due to over-all declining import volumes, while export volumes are still performing roughly at 2018-levels.
All three airports report a decline in volumes, with Stockholm Arlanda down 11.1 percent, Gothenburg down 1.3 percent, and Malmo down 9.6 percent, y-o-y, in all cases due to a drop in import volumes.
At Stockholm Arlanda, a total of 85,259 tonnes of cargo was handled, with imports down 16 percent while exports also dropped seven percent, reportedly due to lower cargo capacity on wide-body aircraft since SAS moved its Hong Kong-flights to Copenhagen from October 28, 2018.
Gothenburg Airport handled 30,966 tonnes of cargo, with exports up some 40 percent thanks to the opening of Qatar Airways' flights from December 12, 2018, with five weekly rotations that will increase to daily flights from December 1, 2019.
Malmo Airport, relying more on integrator traffic than general cargo, handled a total of 11,227 tonnes of cargo, and here export volumes have declined during the period.
