Aug 12, 2019 (newstodate): Efforts to set up a new China-bound freighter service at Eveness Airport are still alive - but the time frame is again slipping..
-We must admit that all preconditions for starting the planned service to bring Norwegian seafood to Asia directly out from the country's production sites in the north are still not in place, says Stig Winther, Pole Position Logistics, and the key driver behind the project.
-We are in talks with Avinor and the operator of the existing terminal at Eveness, and I expect a response by August 25 on the proposal put forward by us for taking over the terminal operation.
-Another issue still not settled concerns the GSE necessary to handling of the planned wide-body freighter operation. It has proved more difficult than predicted to source the equipment needed.
-On the positive side, we can confirm that the issue of financing of the project is fully settled, and the market response and commitment to the project remains in place.
-We also have an agreement in place with a freighter operator that will be ready to start service when all conditions are finally met.
-But while we initially hoped to be in the air already from this spring, it is now impossible to set a new proposed start-up date due the various issues still pending.
-However, rest assured that the new China freighter will come to Eveness Airport when all preparations have been finalized, says Mr Winther.
The seafood freighter operation is envisaged as a triangular flight coming into Eveness Airport part-loaded from a point in Continental Europe for direct onward flight to a Chinese destination.
