Aug 21, 2019 (newstodate): Plans for a new railway cargo service to carry Norwegian seafood shipments closer to the airline hubs in Central Europe have again been postponed.
-We must admit that the start involved more complications in finalizing the pertinent negotiations than expected, says Stig Winther, Pole Position Logistics that is the key driver behind the venture.
-We are now aiming at a start-up by December 1, 2019, if everything goes according to the revised plan.
Originally, plans envisaged the start from July 2, 2019, of a direct railway cargo service with twice-weekly departures from Narvik to Malmo, in Sweden, to carry seafood shipments for onward transportation by air from Copenhagen Airport, or by trucks on the highway system over the Oresund Bridge through Denmark to continental airports such as Frankfurt, Amsterdam and other hubs.
Earlier this month, Mr Winther also admitted the postponement of another key seafood exports-oriented venture for a seafood freighter operation at Eveness Airport in the form of a triangular flight flying in part-loaded from a point in Continental Europe and continuing as a direct onward flight to a Chinese destination.
This project was planned to launch from April 2019, but has now been postponed indefinitely till all preconditions are met, including the issue of renting of cargo terminal capacity at Eveness Airport, leaving the eventual time frame unsettled.
