Aug 27, 2019 (newstodate): Ranking airport is terms of total cargo volumes handled has long been a trivial affair.
A different picture, and a different ranking, appears when longer-term growth is the prime parameter.
Statistics collected and presented by CP Cases of growth over a 10-year period ending 2018 thus places four airports in the Nordic and Baltic regions on the Top-20 list.
In this context, Latvia's Riga Airport is ranked #6 with a 10-year growth in volumes by 258 percent.
#7 is Denmark's Billund Airport with a growth by 255 percent, followed by #9 on the list, Lithuania's Vilnius Airport with 235 percent, and #14, Norway's Oslo Airport with 172 percent.
Topping this list was Spain's Zaragoza Airport with a growth by 843 percent.
Disregarding the actual differences in volumes, Denmark's Copenhagen Airport - #18 in volumes in 2018 - only grew its volumes by five percent during the 10 years recorded.
