Aug 09, 2019 (newstodate): Defying global negative trends, Finnair is still performing relatively well in the cargo market.
In July 2019, the carrier transported a total of 14,783 tonnes of cargo which was an increase by four percent, y-o-y, but well behind the 13.8 percent increase during this year's first seven months.
While still in the black, the growth thus seems to be dampening, with the crucial Asian segment up only 1.7 percent, to 10,464 tonnes in July, while up 11.3 percent, y-o-y, to 70,019 tonnes during January-July 2019.
In July, the European market generated a growth by 60.6 percent to 2,970 tonnes, against 69.1 percent during Jan-Jul, while loads on the North Atlantic lanes were up 9.3 percent to 1,308 tonnes against 36.1 percent up during Jan-Jul.
The load factors also show a drop in the rate of capacity utilization, down 8.5 percentage-point on the Asian traffic, and down 4.7 percentage-points on the N Atlantic routes.
Available scheduled cargo tonne kilometres increased by 15.1 percent, y-o-y, while revenue scheduled cargo tonne kilometres increased by only 4.2 percent in July 2019.
