Aug 08, 2019 (newstodate): DHL Global Forwarding's dedicated crab and seafood freighter from Lakselv in Norway to Oslo and onward to Asia proved a rather short-lived project.
The services have thus been suspended and there are today no indication if the market will see a revival of the flights.
The DHL freighter service at Lakselv was launched on May 23, 2017, and on September 8, 2017, DHL Freight Forwarding introduced its twice-weekly freighter service from Oslo Airport to Seoul continuing to Shanghai, using an Atlas Air Boeing 747-400F aircraft.
One key driver of the service was Cape Fish that in 2018 lifted some 400 tonnes of king crabs from Lakselv to South Korea.
In 2018, Norwegian exporters sent some 1,100-1,200 tonnes of live king crabs by air to consumers in primarily Korea and other Asian markets.
newstodate has not succeeded in obtaining a comment from DHL on the issue of the aborted Lakselv-flights.
