Aug 13, 2019 (newstodate): The suspension of the DHL service from Lakselv to Oslo earlier this year has not had an impact on the logistics serving Cape Fish, one of the leading exporters of king crabs to Asia.
The freighter service was launched on May 23, 2017, and on September 8, 2017, DHL Freight Forwarding introduced a twice-weekly freighter service from Oslo Airport to Seoul continuing to Shanghai, using an Atlas Air Boeing 747-400F aircraft.
-We did use the Lakselv freighter from the start, but soon retreated as we experienced poor quality in the transfer of shipments between the two carriers at Oslo Airport, says Bjorn Ronald Olsen, Cape Fish CEO.
-It is obviously a problem to handle the transfer of shipments between two different airline systems, so we are better served by sending shipments with Norwegian or SAS out of Lakselv to Oslo and beyond, keeping cargo within the same carrier all the way.
-However, our prime provider of services for shipments to Asia, notably Seoul, remains Finnair that trucks the shipments directly from Lakselv into Helsinki Airport for flights on its Asian routes, says Mr Olsen.
In 2019, the quotas for fishing king crabs has been drastically reduced, down about 30 percent from the estimated 1,400 tonnes exported from Norway in 2018.
