Aug 09, 2019 (newstodate): Greenland's airport company Kalaallit Airports International will be ready to sign the final contract with the Danish construction company, the Danish company Munck Gruppen.
The signatures are to be inked on August 13, 2019, signalling the start of the projects comprising the extension of the runway at the capital airport at Nuuk to 1,800m from today's 950m, and the extension of the runway at Ilulissat Airport to 1,800m from today's 845m.
The process is however still surrounded by a heated last-minute debate over the viability of the projects and, not least, the fact that the price tag has still not been publicly released.
If everything goes according to plan, construction works will start this autumn, and the two projects are slated for completion by 2023 opening new venues for air traffic with larger aircraft, including Transatlantic flights.
