Aug 08, 2019 (newstodate): If statistics are reliable, Finland's Helsinki Airport stands against most of its peers in reporting significant increases in cargo volumes in 2019.
During the first half of this year, the airport has thus handled a total of 108,351 tonnes of cargo, which is 16 percent above figures in 2018.
International cargo accounts for 100,815 tonnes, up 14 percent, y-o-y, while international mail with 6,602 tonnes is up by 62.9 percent, y-o-y.
July 2019 also showed an increase by 12.9 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 19,832 tonnes, cargo and mail included.
newstodate has confronted Finavia with doubts about the reliability of the statistics, and it seems that figures should be taken with a grain of salt...
-The cargo statistics are gathered from operators. I found out that our cargo statistics have inaccuracy at the moment. The problem is known and taken care of, says Johanna, Finavia Corporation, Corporate Communications Media Desk.
-If I understood it right, certain cargo information and postal volumes were mixed. This is why the growth you saw appears to be very impressive.
So we have to wait for revised cargo figures, obviously..
