Aug 20, 2019 (newstodate): The global airline industry is hard hit by the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX fleet for a yet-unspecified period since March 11, 2019.
China's airlines form no exception.
According to CAAC statistics, 13 airlines in China have a total of 96 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in their fleets.
China Southern Airlines has 24, Air China 15, Hainan Airlines 11, Shanghai Airlines 11, Xiamen Airlines 10, Shandong Airlines 7, Shenzhen Airlines five, China Eastern Airlines three, Xiangpeng Airlines three, Okay Airways, Fuzhou Airlines and Kunming Airlines each two, and finally Jiu Yuan Airlines one Boeing 737 MAX stuck on ground.
The problems with the aircraft also forces Chinese carriers to re-think their future aircraft fleet planning.
As one example, China Southern Airlines has put plans for another batch of 30 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on hold.
