Aug 09, 2019 (newstodate): Two pilots have embarked on an enigmatic round-the-world flight from Chichester, West Sussex, with a vintage Silver Spitfire aircraft.
But they will not be left alone on the tour from the UK via Scotland, then westbound to the US, Canada, Japan, Russia and India and back to Britain including stops at 100 locations in 30 countries during the five-month, 27,000-mile journey - and taking off from Vagar Airport on the Faroe Islands this morning.
Accompanying the Spitfire on its longest-ever flight is one Pilatus PC-12 aircraft seating eight passengers in standard commuter configuration and carrying the off-duty Spitfire pilot, mechanics and other support staff.
Behind the Pilatus aircraft is the Danish aircraft broker Blackbird Air Charter that provides sale and marketing of the capacity on Copenhagen Air Taxi's fleet of four Pilatus PC-12 aircraft.
