Aug 15, 2019 (newstodate): Despite the harsh sanctions imposed by the US government on trade with Iran, ATR has obtained a special permit.
ATR has been allowed to supply replacement parts for Iran Air to keep its fleet of 13 ATR 72-600 aircraft in the air.
In April 2019, ATR received a licence to export parts, components, tools, software upgrades and provision of technology needed to ensure the safe operation of aircraft.
The licence will remain in effect till April 30, 2021.
In 2017, Iran Air placed orders for delivery of 20 ATR 72-600, with 20 more options - but only 13 aircraft were delivered before the arrangement was cancelled by the sanctions.
The deal between ATR and Iran was long in a limbo as the engine manufacturer, P&W consistently refused to undertake the responsibility for maintenance and spare part provisions of the engines.
The deal finally got underway as ATR accepted to shoulder these responsibilities itself as a direct supplier to Iran Air,
