Aug 14, 2019 (newstodate): The Hungarian LCC Wizz Air is having problems with capacity to open up the planned spree of new routes between European destinations and Kutaisi, in Georgia.
The carrier was to place another two Airbus A320 aircraft at its base at Kutaisi by June 2019, but delays in deliveries from Airbus has postponed the delivery of the two aircraft to July and December 2019, instead.
Expanding the Wizz Air fleet to five aircraft by June 2019 would allow the carrier to add flights between Kutaisi and 12 European destinations Stockholm, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Heraklion, Karlsruhe, Naples, Nice, Nuremberg, Pisa, Poznan, Turku and Venice.
Also the opening of flights to six new destinations including Copenhagen from August 2, 2019, Tallinn from August 4, Eindhoven and Bari from August 1, Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg from August 2, and Brussels-Charleroi from August 4, 2019 has been postponed, with for instance the flight between Kutaisi and Copenhagen re-scheduled to start by September 2012, instead.
Wizz Air is already connecting Georgia with Baltic destinations Riga in Latvia since March 25, 2018, and Vilnius, in Lithuania, since March 31, 2014.
