Jul 04, 2019 (newstodate): Long in the making, plans for a new airport in northern Norway are taking yet another step forward with pre-qualification of three construction groups.
The three groups are headed by AF Gruppen Norway, Peab Anlegg AS, and Skanska Norge, respectively, and now have until September 20, 2019, to deliver their bids in the tender process.
The new proposed Mo I Rana Airport, also called the Arctic Circle Airport, will be located in Helgeland, Norway, to replace the existing Mo I Rana Airport Røssvoll.
The project will feature a 2,400m runway capable of handling Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 operations, and is planned to be commissioned in 2022.
Driving the process is Polarsirkelen Lufthavnutvikling set up by a large number of stakeholders in the regional and local industries, and supported by Avinor.
The crucial question of financing of the coming planned airport project is however still not settled.
