Jul 03, 2019 (newstodate): With a new CEO at the helm, the Estonian carrier Nordica will face a difficult issue of ownership.
Appointed by the supervisory board of state-owned airline Nordica, Gunnar Kobin will take over the position as Nordica CEO by September 1, 2019, replacing Hannes Saarpuu who survived only 10 months in the seat as successor to Jan Tamm, who stepped down in July 2018 as Chairman of the Board after serving from the start in October 2015.
The state ownership in Nordica is now questioned after the carrier has retreated entirely from its original strategy as provider of connectivity to Estonia with routes out of Tallinn Airport, focusing instead on a role as capacity provider for other airlines.
Nordic Aviation was founded on September 25, 2015, by the decision of the Estonian Government to cover the void in air connectivity left by the bankruptcy of Estonian Air, and performed its first flight on November 8, 2015.
