Jul 01, 2019 (newstodate): LATAM Cargo is now online with a weekly freighter service connecting the Nordic markets with South America after a 13-years lapse.
And depending on the response in the four Nordic markets to the new service, hopes are high to see more capacity already in the near future.
-We are now testing the markets on a weekly basis, and have seen full loads on the first two flights from Copenhagen Airport, says Raul Peralta, LATAM Cargo Inside sales GSA Europe, Middle East and Africa.
-As experience builds up and market results are analysed, we may see the addition of a second weekly rotation already from this autumn, and while the capacity on the Boeing 767-300 freighter is now shared with Brussels we may eventually see a dedicated service at Copenhagen Airport as a next stage - all depending on the concrete development, says Mr Peralta.
While the carrier is seeking also general cargo, shipments from the automotive industry and food ingredients, pharma exports is clearly a top priority behind the new freighter service.
And the timing seems excellent..
Last week, EU landed a free trade agreement with Mercosur bloc counting Argentine, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil as members.
Under the agreement, the signatories will exempt a wide range of products from customs and taxes, including also pharmaceuticals.
In 2018, Denmark's exports to the Mercosur bloc totalled DKK 6.6 bio, with pharmaceutical products accounting for the majority of the trade - and expected to rise steeply under the new free trade agreement.
