Jul 31, 2019 (newstodate): According to statistics from ENMAC, Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile, Iran's civil aviation is still a vibrant business despite the sanctions regime.
Among 50 leading airports of 26 countries in the Middle East and North Africa in 2018, Tehran Mehrabad International Airport ranked #9 with a total of 129,292 takeoffs and landings, and #11 in terms of passenger traffic in the region with 15,170,243 passengers through its terminals.
Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport and Shiraz International Airport were ranked #29 and #38.
For cargo volumes, Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport ranked #16 with 145,425 tonnes handled, and Tehran Mehrabad International Airport was #19 with 104,777 tonnes.
A total of 87,333 tonnes of cargo were handled in Mashhad Airport, a total of 31,887 tonnes in Kish, 31,647 tonnes in Shiraz, 20,004 tonnes in Isfahan, and 19,541 tonnes of cargo in Ahvaz.
Mashhad Airport thus ranked #21, Kish Airport #28, Shiraz Airport #29, Isfahan Airport #31, and Ahvaz Airport ranked #32 among MENA airports.
In Q1, 2019, March 21-June 21 according to the Iranian calencar, Iran Airports Company however registered a total of 102,883 takeoffs and landings, down 11 percent, y-o-y.
During the same period, cargo volumes dropped seven percent, y-o-y, to a total of 127,861 tonnes.
