Jul 01, 2019 (newstodate): Before the end of September 2019, Icelandair is to decide on its future aircraft fleet.
Delegations from both Boeing and Airbus have been in talks with Icelandair over the last months, and Icelandair keeps both options open: either to go for a continued partnership with Boeing, or switch to an Airbus fleet in the wake of the ongoing problems with the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
Also weighing in on a decision in Airbus' favour is the issue of whether Boeing will be able to come up with a suitable successor to the Boeing 757 aircraft, for many years the workhorse of Icelandair.
If not, the Airbus A321 XLR will be in place as a future replacement of the Boeing 757 aircraft.
