Jul 03, 2019 (newstodate): The Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways is still waiting for delivery of its first of two new Airbus A320neo aircraft.
Originally slated to arrive already in March 2019, the delivery was first postponed till June - and is still pending.
-We now expect to receive the aircraft at least before July 15, 2019, so the entry into service will be delayed correspondingly, says Johanna a Berghi, Atlantic Airways CEO.
-It is, however, not a real problem as we have enough aircraft capacity to operate the summer schedule. As planned, we just launched our first flight on a new route to Paris on July 1, 2019, now offering three weekly rotations on the route between Vagar Airport and Paris CDG, till the end of September, and then two weekly rotations until Christmas 2019.
-Also plans for opening a series of 4-6 flights from Vagar Airport to New York are still progressing. We are however waiting for further authorization including a Foreign Carrier Permit to introduce the flights.
-Plans for a new hangar at Vagar Airport to accommodate the larger A320neo is also under preparation, but if the facility is not in place for the coming winter schedule we may consider basing the aircraft at Copenhagen Airport as a temporary solution, says Ms a Berghi.
At this year's Paris Air Show, the carrier signed an order with Airbus for another two Airbus A320neo aircraft for delivery in H2, 2023, and H2, 2024, respectively.
By the end of 2024, the airline will thus have four Airbus A320neo in the fleet, building on the first two orders under a leasing agreement with ALC.
