Jun 05, 2019 (newstodate): The Faroe Islands' cargo volumes through Vagar Airport are down in Jan-Apr 2019.
Vagar Airport handled a total of 416 tonnes of cargo during the four months, a drop by 19.2 percent, y-o-y.
The decline was spread through all months, with February dipping as low as 23.9 percent compared to 2018.
The fall in volumes is remarkable seen against the full-year totals in 2018 where cargo was up by 143.2 percent, y-o-y, to 1,605 tonnes.
Introducing competition in the market, SAS started operating the route between Vagar and Copenhagen from March 26, 2017, with a total of 12 weekly flights with Airbus A320 aircraft, in competition to Atlantic Airways that had so far been alone on the route with a daily rotation.
