Jun 12, 2019 (newstodate): The Irish LCC Ryanair continues to add complexity to its organization by setting up a new subsidiary: Malta Air.
Ryanair has added a Maltese AOC by acquiring the Maltese start-up carrier Malta Air with its six Boeing 737 aircraft.
The investment in Malta Air will allow Ryanair to grow its presence in Malta and boost its access to non-EU markets in North Africa from Malta to comprising more than 60 destinations across Europe and North Africa in three years.
Ryanair plans to complete the take-over process of aircraft and staff by the end of June, and expects to grow the fleet to 10 aircraft within the coming three years.
But Ryanair also plans to place more than 50 aircraft on Maltese AOC, benefiting from a mild and liberal taxation environment.
Adding the Maltese subsidiary marks Ryanair's second move into new markets after the set-up in Poland of Ryanair Sun, later named Buzz, in spring 2017 as a subsidiary to provide charter flight capacity for Polish and other tour operators.
