Jun 28, 2019 (newstodate): Greeted by a traditional recycled and cleansed waste-water salute, LATAM Cargo's Boeing 767-300 freighter made its official debut at Copenhagen Airport on June 27, 2019, marking the launch of a weekly service to South America.
Flying in from Brussels, the freighter will now operate on Thursdays from Copenhagen Airport via a technical refuelling stop at Capo Verde to Viracopos in Brazil, Montevideo in Uruguay, Santiago in Chile, and Quito in Peru.
The Nordic markets have been without a direct air link to South America since Varig ceased operations at Copenhagen Airport in 2006 - and for Copenhagen Airport this also fulfils a long-nurtured hope to see freighter traffic returning after the airport lost its last commercial all-cargo service when China Cargo Airlines pulled out from February 16, 2018.
The new service aims at gaining a foothold among Nordic exporters in the pharma, automotive, energy and paper industries, offering some 20-25 tonnes of capacity on each flight that can lift up to 50 tonnes shared with Brussels and allowing for flexibility to meet actual market needs.
The official inaugural flight was LATAM Cargo's second operation into Copenhagen Airport, and on both occasions the company reports full loads boding well for the reception in the market, where cargo sales and marketing in all four Nordic markets is provided by KALES Airlines Service.
LATAM Cargo has selected WFS to provide cargo terminal handling at Copenhagen Airport.
