Jun 13, 2019 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport saw a sustained rise in mail volumes in May 2019 - but the total cargo volumes were still below 2018-levels.
The airport thus handled 948 tonnes of cargo in May, down 1.5 percent, y-o-y, as export cargo volumes were down 6.8 percent to 26 tonnes, and import cargo volumes dropped 11.1 percent to 443 tonnes.
On the positive side, import mail was up 5.5 percent to 98 tonnes, while export mail was also up 60.4 percent to 146 tonnes.
During January-May 2019 the airport has handled 4,520 tonnes of cargo and mail, down 5.3 percent, y-o-y, while the monthly decline is levelling with May performing the best so far into the year.
So for Tallinn Airport, prospect for a re-bounce in cargo clearly lies in a sustained growth in e-trade related business driving the mail traffic volumes.
