Jun 28, 2019 (newstodate): Sichuan Airlines' plans for launch of services between Chengdu and Helsinki are seemingly being delayed.
The start was expected by August 2019, but according to Joni Sundelin, Finavia Snr VP, speaking to a Finnish media, the date is still not settled while hopes remain that the start will be before the end of this year.
It also now emerges that the Helsinki flight will be an extension of the existing route between Chengdu and Copenhagen, launched on December 10, 2018, with two weekly flights using Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
The routing will thus be Chengdu-Helsinki-Copenhagen-Helsinki-Chengdu, based on the carrier's 5th Freedom rights.
Sichuan Airlines would become the third Chinese carrier into Helsinki Airport after Tibet Airlines launched flights from April 8, 2019, with one weekly rotation on the route between Jinan, in China's Shandong Province, and Helsinki with Airbus A330, adding a second frequency from May 9, 2019, and the Chinese low-cost carrier Juneyao Airlines with flights between Shanghai and Helsinki starting from June 28, 2019, offering daily services.
