Jun 07, 2019 (newstodate): To remedy its current shortage of aircraft capacity during the Boeing 737 MAX 8 groundings, Icelandair is now turning to Airbus aircraft as well.
So far a staunch operator of Boeing aircraft, Icelandair is to take in an Airbus A319 aircraft on a wet-lease contract covering the summer peak period from June 20 to August 2019.
Icelandair has already sourced two Boeing 767-300 aircraft on a dry-lease contract, with the first aircraft entering operation by mid-April, and the second aircraft joining by the beginning of this month.
The carrier has also added one Boeing 757-200 aircraft on a similar basis from May 15, 2019, and till the end of September.
With these changes, the total seat capacity from July 15 to September 15 will still decrease by five percent compared to the original estimates.
