Jun 24, 2019 (newstodate): The latest imposition of restrictions on commercial flights over parts of Iran is adding to the plights of the airlines.
FAA has thus now banned all US operators from flying in the Iranian airspace over the Hormuz FIR after the June 19 shooting down of a US drone, while EASA has not yet followed suit with similar action.
Already hampering the commercial airlines is Pakistan's partial closure, making it impossible to fly over Pakistan to the Indian airspace.
This has hit, among others, Finnair that has changed flight schedules for the Helsinki-Delhi route as well as adjusting routes for other Asian destinations.
However, the latest flight ban by FAA does not hit Finnair directly as the carrier's route to Dubai that would otherwise be affected is not operated during the summer schedule.
Also routes from Copenhagen by Thai Airways and Norwegian to Bangkok and Air India's route to Delhi are not directly affected at this stage as they are routed through northern Iranian airspace and south of Pakistan, respectively.
