Jun 26, 2019 (newstodate): With the first flight on December 15, 2019, Finnair will become the only European carrier into Japan's Sapporo Chitose Airport, on Hokkaido Island.
The carrier will start out with two weekly rotations from Helsinki Airport using Airbus A350 or Airbus A330 aircraft.
Sapporo will be Finnair's 5th Japanese destination after Narita, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka, and will be served seasonally till March 27, 2020.
The opening of Finnair's flights will mark the first time in 17 years for Sapporo to have a direct connection to Europe after KLM closed services on its route from Amsterdam in 2002.
